friend raisers
At least once a year, Miss Ruby’s Kids sponsors a community event that features a speaker on a topic that is relevant to our mission. This event, for which there is no admission fee, is our way of thanking the community for its support.
Our most recent friend raiser was held in the fall of 2011 with a presentation by Gen. Walter Johnson, retired Army officer, business man, entrepreneur and author. Growing up in a housing project in Charleston, he joined the Army in 1961. After his retirement, Gen. Johnson, founded Eagle Group International, which he eventually sold to Lockheed Martin Corporation. He then wrote a book called I Can Do That! to help people start or further their own businesses, and to recognize the tremendous opportunities available to them. His inspiration came from many sources, especially his family. He emphasized the importance of early childhood education as a foundation for success in life, reaffirming the work of Miss Ruby’s Kids.
