Parent Workshops
Parent Workshop opportunities are provided for parent/caregivers and children served by our home visitation and mentoring program.
In early 2011, parents/caregivers were invited to attend a series of parenting workshops. Workshops were taught by Teresa Peterson, a certified instructor in ParentsCare. Topics included: parenting and parenting styles, developmental stages, nurturing success at home and school, and discipline vs. punishment. Parents/caregivers were encouraged to participate in activities and discussions surrounding the topics.
During the months of October and November, Ms. Ruby’s Kids staff and volunteers presented Survival Skills for Parents: Building Relationships for Success. This series was divided into five sessions. The following topics were explored:
- Exploring Self: What Makes Us, Us?
- The Purpose of Parenting and Parenting Styles
- Human Development: Guide to Ages and Stages
- Home Life, Life Away from Home, Discipline vs. Punishment
- Parenting Tools, Extended Discussions, Evaluation
All parents/caregivers whose children were served by Miss Ruby’s Kids were invited to attend. A grand prize was awarded for perfect attendance at all five sessions. In addition, door prizes were awarded each night.
The sessions were taught by Teresa Peterson, a certified instructor in ParentsCare.
